I'm posting this in response to Kris Hankin's poem "You Light Up My Life". I only smoked for a short time---that was the extent of my rebelliousness when I was younger. I quit permanently when I found out I was pregnant with my first daughter. ~~~ *** ~~~ I started smoking cigarettes, When it was thought quite cool, But times have changed so very much, And now I'm called a fool! For risking health to puff away, On a cancer stick, With no regard for those who care That it could make me sick! When I am at a party Or on a break at work, Non-smokers cough and stare me down, And I feel like a jerk! I'm tired of the flack I get Everywhere I go, I wish they'd let me smoke in peace But it never will be so. For times have changed, and I should too, So I'll kiss my smokes good-bye, For smokers are a dying breed And I don't want to die! ~~~ *** ~~~ [This message has been edited by Earth Angel (10-21-2002 05:45 PM).] |

Good for you, Linda. I hope you quit before they helped ruin your health like they did mine. Maybe you don't have to go for the check-ups to the doctor like I have to today. I simply hate to go to the doctor, but since it's been so long since I've been to him, I have to go to get refills for my prescriptions. Well, I've gotta go. (I hope this helps somebody to think about quitting, at least) Love To All, Ethel [This message has been edited by garysgirl (10-21-2002 12:00 PM).] |

Mr. T. ~ I didn't smoke very long. It was the only rebellious thing I ever really did. My folks flipped, but I was away at school and asserting my independence! As soon as I found out I was pregnant with my first daughter, I quit and never went back. Thank you for reading and replying! Linda |

Ethel ~ I'm sorry that you have health problems from your previous years of smoking. I didn't smoke very much, nor very long, so fortunately I my health was not compromised. ~ Wishing you vibrant good health ~ Linda |

Bernie ~ You are taking a step in the right direction! Good luck with your efforts!---and remember, every burning cigarette is money going up in smoke! hehe ~ May your lungs be empty of smoke and your pockets full of money! ~ Linda |

(big hugggsssssss) Yay!!! Oh Linda, I'm so proud of you, I am zero-tolerant on smoking and alcohol and drugs, so I have never smoked and never will, because I believe it does destroy health and I wish for many more to give it up too or avoid starting! (sigh) I guess fear seems to be the only thing that encourages people not to smoke, because when I was in second grade, an anti-smoking program came to my school and back then I had no clue what smoking was at all, but then they showed me pictures of blackened lungs and ones infected and they made me feel sick for days and even made me cry and I screamed to my mom "I don't want lungs like that!" so I never smoke and I guess being scared is what helped me! (sigh) This is wonderful, sweet friend, may we do all we can to slowly eliminate the risks of smoking, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Linda, well, aren't we quite the pair. I smoked for 40 years plus and it will be one year on November 9th that I have not smoked. I still miss them sometimes, but I know it was the right thing to do. I substituted with chocolate! Hugs and health to both of us ~~ Marti Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. |
