This is my hour wrapped up
in the enabled arms of Trek.
His T-shirt torn at the sleeve
slides up as I snuggle in,
purring upon his right biceps,
cotton caressing muscle,
his shoulder tattooed
with the words:
“Theresa loves Trek,”
Theresa that’s me,
sitting on the porch,
in the arms of my man
as the litter of drained beer
bottles quietly rattle in the chilling breeze.

“That’s the sign of a storm blowing in”
says Trek, “the only storm ’ll
be in the bedroom, hon.” I reply,
thinking of day I caught that ugly
wench Lucy down on her knees,
with my man Trek, though I set ‘em right.

Things will always balance in the end,
even if there must be some lose
a sacrifice, the impact on a life,
the edge of my pen knife…….
In the moonlight all bloodied
And righteous, I knew I had done right,
In the blackness of that night,
I had done right by my man.

“You think of her, often” I say,
“Who?“ he replies, pretending
but really knowing, testing to see
if I can utter her name
without clenching my teeth,
“Lucy.”
“not for a long time now, its only you for me,”
We kiss, and think of Lucy,
there in white slip on, freed from the light of day.

In the silent depths of night
some time before, if I really listened
I could the soft rattling of her bones
Along the walls and floor boards,
Though now no more.
