I'm glad I'm not a woman in Pakistan. I'm glad I'm not dead because a man raped me. I'm glad I'm not a woman held accountable for the crimes of my brother. I'm glad I'm not a woman tortured for speaking out against torture and abuse. I'm glad I'm not a woman who has to be afraid of being one. Woman is the nigger of the world, yes she is If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with Woman is the slave of the slaves, yes she is If you don't believe me, you better scream about it We make her paint her face and dance We make her bear and raise our children And then we leave her flat for being a fat old mother hen We tell her home is the only place she should be Then we complain that she's too unworldly to be our friend............john lennon sums it all up, for me.......your poem just made me go look for this again |

yes much to be glad for..and much to grieve.. nicely done...we tend to take for granted the freedoms and protections we have. |

Inked, thank you for diggin and bringing John's lyrics back. Thank you. Ron, I am constantly grateful. I could have been killed many times over, literally and physically. Our sisters are constantly in danger. |

Ethel, thanks, for always being a strong woman. Sybil, I don't know about that title, for there are so many strong women here who speak out, maybe not always in the same way. Thank you. My Christmas and New Year's wish? that all women could walk and talk and Love freely. For once women can do this, mankind will be set free of the burden of controlling everyone, and be able to love unconditionally. |

Several years ago I watched a news documentary on the plight of young women in Pakistan...they were being burned with heating oil by members of their husbands' family...the reason being that their dowery was not large enough...their mothers-in-law carried out most of the attacks...this is just one example of the terrible crimes being committed against women throughout the world...silence is consent...we must never stop speaking out against such things... believe in what your heart feels... |

Salty and scorpio, thank you both. The recent estimate? over 461 women murdered this year alone in Pakistan. They call them family "honor killings." If this be honor, please dishonor me and leave me alone. |

Thanks for being here, Sy. Nothing is free, except the opportunity to give respect and freedom and love equally. It's God's gift to us, to be free. |

Midnite as I read it those John lyrics came to mind but inked beat me to them (figures). Unfortunately I know two women who haven't been so lucky in life and i know how deep the scars run. I hope they and you know that while the world can be terribly brutal and hostile not all men would have it this way. I feel there pain too and as a child of a single mother I know the burdens you all can bear. Take care and thank you for sharing poignant words raph |

Raphael, your heart is much too loving and kind to be hostile to another living creature. Thank you, dear friend, for being so gentle and human. |

Like many places on this earth, a dreadfully wretched place for women. I pray for them every day. Hugs, Marti |

(big hugggssssssss) You know, one of my absolute favorite poems of all time is all about celebration of being a woman: Maya Angelou's "Phenominal Woman" (sigh) Though I am not a woman, and may not be able even to understand all that makes a woman special yet, I too admire all women who follow their hearts and be phenominal! (sigh) I only wish this same freedom could fill the hearts of those in less fortunate parts of the world, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kacy, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Kacy, You have a wonderful woman's voice! And btw, sin sucks! If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

I find it unfathomable and nauseating and my cynical side is buttressed with justification of feeling ashamed to be part of this human race. I wonder which DNA strand it is in humans that holds such diabolical, degenerative regression... -MVS "AS ABOVE SO BELOW" |

I want to thank each of you for your replies. This is a bitter nasty world in so many ways, and the deaths of these women is an abomination, a curse on mankind. Mark? If only we could identify and isolate such a strand. I too bow my head in shame and disgust at humanity's inhumanity. |

Thanks for your words. It is so sad the flight of these women. What is sad is it is women all over the globe, even here. Women should be honored, for women give life. Too often history shows the woman as the second class person, when in truth many problems men solved because of the love and gentle guidiance of the woman they allow to stand beside them. Hugs, Coway |
