From here
To the bend at
Wilson’s Ford
Lies 40 miles of road
And 10 of river

No shortcuts
On these man made
Trails of dust
And blacktop

But the river
In crooked wandering
Goes through the heart
And soul of this place

Deep in pools it stills
While shallow runs
Skirt the harder spots
By spreading thin
And sprinkling sunlight
To the tunes of
Stones turned

Shaded mind
Has traveled both pathways
And 40 miles of road
Is quicker

But then again
Life and living is not
Always about faster
Or practical

Somewhere
Sometimes
The river runs
Through everyone’s
Mind

BRAVO! This is winding it's way into my favorites.
Thoroughly enjoyed the river trip.

Be it a river
or a road
or just a footpath...

it still beckons us
to follow.

Ron

River is my friend, a muse that I miss when he's not around.  Wonderful metaphor at the end there, for peace and tranquility.

Very, very good, Capt. Ron. Made me wonder if there's any good fishing on that river!?! You sure can tell a good story, friend.
Thank you for sharing...

Yes, such a river has run through my mind, but what keeps my interest in living is my curiosity at what lies ahead around the bend.

Wonderful write, el capitan!

Midnight... glad you enjoyed.
Sunshine.. Exactly...as long as the intent is not one of haste but one of enjoyment
Martie... I've always found the river to be a friend and to be a source of inspiration

Garysgirl... yes some good fishing below the put in about a mile..long hole opens up  with alot of trees on both sides, good topwater palce for largemouth. Then all the riffles or below them seem to have their share of smallmouths..

EA.. it is always the thought of what is around the bend that makes paddling a river of any kind interesting.

A contemplative impression of insight...  "Shaded Mind" sounds like a great title for a poem... (hint, hint...)

I love this wise river poem. And, echo all the above comments...

I like:

"Life and Living
is not always
about faster or
practical"

So true, and my only other comment is regarding the slow path; preparation is everything.

Ron,

Sorry, My first comment hasn't come up for editing. Does preparation come under the heading of: practical?

Really did like this poem......

Thanks, Pat

Pat.. I would have to disagree..always practical is not always best. The road traveled is filled with many things one would miss if they were always practical in their choices..

Passing Shadows... yes it does, if for only a moment or only once...

Yes Ron, they are called mistakes.

And they can be quite costly. Think the importance is how willing are we to take chances. I personally must be prepared. Those big bears in the bushes can be pretty scary along that slow path...jumping out, unexpectantly
smiling here..... love the poem, and guess you didn't see my 2nd reply.

thank you so much....going back to the re-read and enjoy that river.....

I understand your meaning completely.
And, meant mine, light-heartedly, in passing. You are right. Maybe having  no expectations would have been a better choice of getting to my meaning. You make me think and that is a good thing.
Warm regards, Pat

Oh, I really enjoyed this and the imagery was fantastic. I was there; if only in your mind!

Glad you enjoyed Marti... haven't been there myself in quite some time... one of these days I need to go back and refresh those memories.
