~* Decision *~
© Elizabeth Santos 12/2002

A little snowflake landed near
And melted to a silent tear
So perfect was the star of lace
That only eye could well embrace
And hold the vision deep and dear

A candle flickered in the hall
A light of beauty, yet so small
It lit the night and shed its glow
Upon a window pane of snow
And make each flake dissolve and fall

Should I remove the candle’s flame
From near the crystal window pane
To stop the flakes in icy melt
And darken all the joy I felt,
Or let the wick of warmth remain?

A flickering glance is all I see
As fire consumes each doily
Without the candle’s ivory glow
I would not have a flake of snow
Etched in my eye eternally

To let them melt, or let them free
These icy stars that rapture me
I think I’ll let the candle burn
And melt the lace as moments turn
And then snuff out the ecstasy

Elizabeth, this was very good. A lot of different thoughts came to mind while I was reading it. Thank you for sharing.

The soft glow of one candle illuminating each lace patterned snowflake on the window is a beautiful image, Elizabeth...

Yes,  Liz...this has to be a truly tough
choice....keep the warmth,  give up the
beauty....or vice versa....

Beautifully written....yes indeed..
