Of Wintertime

It was the moon of wintertime,
Gentle glow in crystal clime,
Frozen plains in snow's embrace,
Of nature's sound lay not a trace.

No whispered wind, nor coyote's howl,
No sound of man, or hoot of owl,
Just silence of a night so clear,
Moon's golden beams touched on the ear.

Cottonwoods long since unclothed,
Gowned in white with night betrothed,
While all the while I gazed in awe,
At the splendor that I saw.

It mattered not the hour was late,
I stood alone at heaven's gate,
In Luna's glow in crystal clime,
It was the moon of wintertime.

Away from hype of city light
where the stars are crystal, gleaned,
stands the moon in vision's sight
and we are bathed in moonlight's stream
