(it has been pointed out, and correctly so, that I got the year wrong...oops! Well, please forgive me for that and simply connect war and birth - I'll try to be more careful in the future - promise!!)

It is, of course a certainty that all who study war
Recall the date December 7th, 1944.
As bombs were dropping on Pearl Harbor on that fateful morn
Across the world in war-torn state a child was being born.

One has to wonder if the mother worried that her child
Might not survive the lunacy that drove the planet wild.
A child born in chaotic madness with no end in sight
Was sure to cause great consternation for her on that night.

The war is long since over - fifty-eight years now have passed
The child has grown to womanhood...the time went by so fast!
Pearl Harbor I'll salute tomorrow - and that small child, too.
Happy birthday, Titia Geertman. Know that we love you!

Three years to the day...a child was born
to a world of so much strife and yet, in
the lull of the madness...a miracle came
to be...and remains today a part of this
world and our little haven...

Happy Birthday Titia,  and thank you
Michael for this gift you give...

Balladeer - I'm not sure if I've read your poem correctly, but I think they dropped the bombs on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941... Of course I may have missed something.. but a nice birthday one...

Surprise it was my sweetest Deer
To find this poem you wrote for me
It doesn't matter if you got a date wrong
For me it's always the right one you see

Born I was at the light of a candle
In the worst Winter of World War Two
Pearl Harbor's date I will always remember
As I will these lovely words from you

Thank you so much my friend

and thanks to all other poets for their sweet wishes.

Titia

Happy Birthday Titia, and I hope it is a great one too.  This brings sad thoughts to mind of mothers during that time, and how they must have thought about their newborns.  I was born at the end of WWII, and started a new war of my own that day   A great poem to a wonderful lady, and who cares about the year after 29 anyway right Titia?

I was in the pharmacy yesterday, and as I wrote my check, realized the date and murmured "It's Pearl Harbor Day." The youthful moron behind the counter immediately acted like he was throwing confetti and yelled "Yippee! Hurray for Pearl Harbor Day!"
I took my time with the check writing so I could give him a history lesson... along with a fairly large dose of opinion. *G* I'm not sure if anything got through... but perhaps some WWII veteran came in and was greeted with respect instead of by Party Central. *S* I can hope anyway. *G*
On the other hand... Titia's birthday is certainly reason for celebration, complete with banners and balloons and bundles of good wishes... hope it was a great one!
I like this very much, Bal... *S* And I don't blame you at all for getting the year wrong... I know it's getting harder for you to remember your days as a young man. *hee hee*
