There.
I just did it again.
An elevator in descend--
the only thing surprising me--
familiar
as the hug of friend--
a small head rush
and buckled knees
from direction's change abrupt.

Damn I just screwed up again.

I press the buttons frantically
praying for an opening--
and any floor will do.

I need to feel the stomp of stairs.
I have to find the ground again--
walls keep beat too anxiously.
You are here. <---
Where is the sky?

Now I even fight the flight,
I mock my own futility.
Spare me the fluorescent lights.
Trying not to kick the glass
of this
revolving door...

I greet the open air again
meet the eyes of puzzled stare
strangers know
I laugh to think
and wish I were inside again.

As always, Karen, I liked this. Your poems always have me
reading real fast, so I can get to the end to see what's
going to happen.

Linda--yep, there is only thing better than a stomp of stairs when you're in the middle of a fight-or-flight full blown anxiety attack, and that is the stomp of stairs--barefoot
Thanks for understanding.

ethel--sweet lady, you. Thanks for your generosity. So gracious, thanks for reading.

and yep, folks.. just a small anxiety attack! Everything's under control now. Go back to your quills.

Hugs all.

Now this is a very unique description of the anxiety attack. I'd say you hit the target with these words.

oooohweeeeee...I'm glad you out of there!
there's comfort in knowing others have experienced the same feelings ...and made it through *S*

Very good job you did

serenity

For me its crowds that make me crazy to be alone.  You caught the panic with this one, I can relate.

serenity blaze - eeeeek...for those of us who experience daily anxiety attacks, you have described the feeling very well. Not being able to find the EXIT sign in a busy, brightly lit department store, is one that pushes my panic button! shakey hugs, Chris

(sigh) As long as the big door is shut closed, no stranger can ever persuade you, so go down where no shadow can see the light to camouflage! (sigh) This is excellent, sweet friend, I just love your thoughts, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Thanks all...I was just trying to capture the "trapped" feeling of anxiety, and the elevator was actually my rather overused metaphor for the accompanying moodiness.

I'm happy that it was understood, but dismayed at how many of you could relate.

Anxiety sucks.

Hugs to you all.
