Caught in the headlights of another listless day trapped in a concrete cage steel beams that block the sky I've never shared in optimism tomorrow never keeps its promise of a new day The same old things regurgate And I've found it all a little hard to stomach Even in a weakened state from tired bones within hope binds in threadbare strings to people and places The sweetness of these memories and of what life could be washes out the aftertaste of the bitterness of all that is Its only hope that keeps us from walking out on life Note: I never much cared for how this poem worked so I've made some minor edits to make it tighter. It's still a message of hope even in the darkest of times. raph [This message has been edited by Aenimal (12-03-2002 08:29 PM).] |

Thanks for the line of hope you offered up at the end of this...I cannot seem to think that some good is found somewhere, no matter how dark any day gets. |

Great imagery, Rapahel -- especially in the first and last stanzas. This brings to mind a favorite quote from a friend: "Fight the inertia." I'm enjoying your writing. -MVS "AS ABOVE SO BELOW" |
