In so many ways The outer shell Shows no damage Smiling in contentment Public relations Does not show the cracks For the cover-up is cosmetic And the mirage is complete A jeweled crown In superficial radiance A volatile package Testing time Abuse, such an ugly word Taking something you love And destroying it In fists of feelings A physical violence That marks a relationship In a cowardly intimidation Of brutal power In verbal assaults That cut like razor blades Soon the scars Cover the heart from caring How can love turn into hate How can a decent person Demean another so much That they cower in fear Soon the children Fear for their sanity Growing up insensitive Finding a loved one To carry on a tradition The sad thing is That some will go back Till the end of time Retreating into the tyranny Of the inner sHELL Thought: I have sought a lifetime for my soul mate that I will cuddle in the warmth of my heart. Please treat your spouse in the respect that true love is meant to be shown. Your poem shows well the results of abuse, and how horrible it is all around, very well done! WinterWren |

They can do it because they are not ~decent people~, but rather extremely tormented themselves, unable to allow themselves to feel their own painful experiences; their only relief is administering pain, physically, mentally, verbally, and/or worse of all ~spiritually~, living vicareously through the unsuspecting victims, whom they too often destroy, one way or the other. They are pathetic cowards, to say the least. Their remorse is most remarkable.... as sadly, painfully real as their abuse, with just as many tears spilled, but, it never keeps them from doing it again...add alcohol or drugs to the mix and you get some psychotic episodes more scary than your worse nightmares. Do I think they would stop if they could? Yes, I do. But, they can't. And, then there are the true sadists who are in a whole other league. Your poem is well written from your heart and I enjoyed it. I think the ones who need to be addressed are the victims, however...for only they can learn more about the problem and LEAVE. But, often they too, are as sick as the abuser. Both need professional help. Thanking you for this, even the thought of abuse still causes quite a reaction in me. Fortunately, there is much help available now days. Warm regards, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |
