airports

i get wasted.
it's just another christmas
wandering the trenches;
all apologies.

"You'll be nothing.
Never make it in the real world."
At least that's what the card
from mom and dad says.

it's christmas eve; i'm at the airport.
all these planes make me feel
like maybe i could get away...

packed a bag
just to feel like a traveler
press my face against the glass
and feel a little more free

i stand alone watching silver birds like rocket ships
screaming before they launch into the night
i close my eyes; do lovers soar and safely land?
listen as the they fall gently
from the sky

moving walkway
i'm standing on the left side
it goes so slowly when
the terminal is dead

after midnight...
red eyes at the empty gate
i can't remember where you went
and you forgot i stayed

"keep your phone on and i'll call."
that's what she said to me
the battery's not as patient
as i have to be

just another christmas
at the airport
maybe i'll visit de-tox
on new year's eve

maybe i'll just get away...

i stand alone watching silver birds like rocket ships
screaming before they launch into the night
i close my eyes; do lovers soar and safely land?
listen as the they fall gently from the sky

where were you?
i was at the airport.
i had a dream...we could get away.
but where were you
while i was at the airport?
landing so far away...

"through the ravages of sleeplessness lies the comfort of the night"

This one gave me a chill. I remember a similar comment thrown at me many years ago.
I'm glad I didn't believe a word of it.
Happy holidays. PS, the email lines here are always connected and no one gets put down.

Heartfelt and honest

Seems no matter how far we try to get away from them our thoughts are our constant companions. While easier said than done don't let it get to you. It's our thoughts that do us in.

You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
But me myself I got nothing to prove

You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way ....

I remember we were driving
driving in your car ...
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had feeling I could be someone, be someone,
Be someone ....

oh geez I like airports....I'll come sit with you we can press our noses into the glass, run the opposite way on the walkway, take a ride on the luggage pick-up thingie, and get thrown out by airport security It'll be fun!

Ethan

If you feel alone inside, an airport filled with people, or empty at midnight, you are still alone.  This poem feels that feel...well done!

Have you ever heard
an airport echo?
I have.
This does...
