Grandma’s Eyes She filled me with a love for life, in her sickness and her health And although she was the grand, a mother’s love her truest wealth Without a dime she taught me much, of tidily winks with buttons Fudge that never firmed the pan, doll clothes made of paper cuttings She took her time in ventures small, trading stamps her green and gold And gave to me her time, most all, the walks of endless stories told Without so much, her basic needs, relinquished for the best of all Forgotten all too often, to the football game and lame tales stall She left into a dark abyss when I was four that year And fought the voices in her head, at eight to reappear Without a sound she battled back the shame her husband said Forever to be welcomed back, her step my smile then led She lost me in the autumn next, again to take the shake so crazed And reappeared like yesterday as I was wed in summer blazed Without a doubt to cause a stir, my child was her best present For she had come to poor extreme, her health in stealth represent She saw with eyes that shined with joy, a strength that no one knew And in the time we shared so dear, to know from where I drew Without a fight she slipped from sight and seemed to still remain For she, like me, these eyes that see, each new day comes the same She would have smiled with eyes beguiled I saw them just today And looking back from glass the smack of joy in the same way Without the know, in dreams that glow, my own eyes twinkle her For she had come to be in me, my eyes of her...as it were Copyright Kkh 11/30/02 In the honor of my dear grandmother: Bernice Viola Bartlett “Beansy” 4/8/1918 - 11/27/1980 [This message has been edited by ThisDiamond (11-30-2002 05:43 PM).] |

Well you have tears rolling right down my face. This utterly touches me deeply. It is priceless.... So many lines just leaped out at me and caused another tear, and though I did not have a grandmother's love, I am a grandmother and I don't have to say more...... I am not just saving it, I am printing it if that is okay with you. Hugs and warm regards to you, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |

This is so beautiful! I have often heard others talk about their grandmas. But, this is a joy I never had. |

TD... you have shared with us a very touching and real part of your life....It is surely sad when we love someone and though they are with us, they are somewhere in another world... I have no doubt you inherited a lot from her, and yes, your greatest gift to her was your first born child... Beautiful write K. Very touching, to say the least... |
