Familiar

You can smell fresh kill in the dark
Like nocturnal droppings
In a serpentine meadow.
Sleeping poppies,
Murder in the empty mind shaft,
Macabre bloodshot eyeballs,
Each flowering image
Seen through the stem cell.

Left for you to scavenge
Hungry engine
Strange device
Pour your poetry like pathos
From a pitcher of poison.
Pumice
Stone my angry mouth
For sipping the antidote-
Breathes smoke into my soldered bones.

The sky, jet black
The horizon,
Toothy and banal.
The ground where I stand
Is semen-white

Here my eyes are barren.

Walt... the images are stark and painful...mixing metaphor on metaphor while carrying the feel of this from opening line to end... strong stuff pard... hope all is well with you...

o all's fine mostly yuh the horizon is bleak but that's what it is for a poet who needs to do something more with his life than write about it. Thanks

this is real heavy reading, and im too zonked out to read it like it deserves to be read, my antennas went up tho, cause its hunting season out here in NJ and that pisses me off every winter when i see the fresh deer on the hoods of the beasts who kill them
