her words batter backwards
splattering like sleet on a window
running down into the crevices
clumping together until the
temperature rises enough
to melt down into
the bitterness
that truth is

despite the pungent dripping
her heart grows colder and
more unwilling to beat
with each day’s passing

the dark circles are now just
decorations they don’t hurt any
more or less than the churning
of the internal mixer that she cannot
turn off, only lower the speed
at which she is being destroyed

if you catch her unaware
and look deep into her eyes
there will be moments when
her façade fails and you can see
the destruction

what does "PTSD" mean?

the imagery is harsh and vivid, i almost want to say this belongs in the dark poetry forum.

it was good, if sad.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder....comes from many causes, many suffer from it and don't even know....

and yes, it might, but this is the only forum I post, I will leave it to the discretion of the moderators if they think it needs to be moved

yes...you can see the destruction if you look deeply.. in anyone suffering this way.

very strongly written... it captures well the feelings of such experiences.

It's like reading a playback of my own personal PTSD when 26 long-stay patients of mine for whom I had a great deal of affection, died in a fire the night I had booked off as charge nurse! The nurse that covered for me that night had to go through an inquest and had a nervous breakdown. I am still haunted by this and your poem brought back those painful memories---very vivid portrayal of PTSD!

jellybeans - excellent discription of a disorder that can spoil the joy that life has to offer. I can relate all too well with this poem. Chris

JB,

I think you did many people a favor by writing this. There is so much help available now days. Even if someone doesn't know the name of their symptoms, they still are symptoms which do not need to be lived with. Often it is only a matter of 4-6 appts. with a therapist to get past this, my therapist told me and it was true.  Flashbacks, spaciness, time stands still and somehow you are 2 hours later in life and couldn't tell anyone where you had been mentally, cause you don't know, trembling at the sight of a particular person not related to the trauma, but a reminder of a feature, and the list goes on and on....I didn't mean to re-write your poem for you, but the list does go on and on. I would hope by you sharing this, someone will go seek help. If you are experiencing
this yourself I commend you for having the courage to write it. You are a very talented writer. Keep writing for these poems always help me know I am not alone in what I, or others, I know, went and/or are  going through.

There is such a thing as a sliding scale fee program for those who say they can't afford a therapist. It is critical to talk to a professional. It is possible to know peace.

Hugs and warm regards, Pat

Dear sweet jellybeans, what a kind and thoughtful reply you made to mine. No appology is necessary. This was a very well written account of what many of us have experienced one way or another. We all write poetry that can affect some people in unpleasant ways i.e. poetry on children may sadden a woman who is unable to bear a child, or poems on love may sadden someone who has lost a love...We don't own people's reactions to our words, we simply write what is in our hearts or on our minds and hope for the best.
You have a kind heart and you are a talented poetess.

I've read this many times since I first saw it yesterday afternoon... and it still causes chills, no matter how warm the room. That, dear lady, is superb poetry that comes from knowing, not imagination. Magnificent write!

JB, after reading this wonderful work of yours over
and over, I don't really know how to reply......except
to say that you captured the feelings
and emotions of a lot of people in your poem.
And, also, that you did an excellent job of
doing so.
I would like to second Earth Angel's second
reply to you, though.......friend, you shouldn't
apologize about a poem written from your
heart, as you have written this, I believe. If we tried to
please everyone who might read our poetry, we
would never write again, because it would be
absolutely impossible. Even if the words really
touch a person, our words may help that person to
get through the feelings and emotions that they are experiencing.
Thank you very much for sharing your heart with us.

well I tried to write it without a ‘cause’, because for each it is different, and without a solution, because again, for each it is different, but recognition, I believe, is the first step…

Nightshade, thank you, too many I fear, relate to this

Magnus, thank you

jwesley, thank you

Pat, thank you for the comments and yes you are right, a little bit of help goes a long way.  I do believe I am on the ‘up’ side of this and that writing has been my vehicle for getting there…readers who reach out and support are priceless, thank you for your wonderful heart

EA, I just closed my eyes and felt your pain, and I understand so well why it would want to stay hidden, sometimes though, a remembrance dealt with is another part of the healing…thank you for your kindness

Bal, thank you…good to see you out and about

suthern, lady I think you are closer than most to the ‘realness’ that this portrays,  thank you, for your love and your compliments

gg, thank you lady, for your comments and your wonderful caring heart

and far into the grief of dark.
