Wading Through The Bull I waded through the farmer's field, not knowing where to go, I focused on the minefield, full of pestilence below; My task was not an easy one, I had to concentrate, Maneuvering was tricky, as I tried to side-step fate. Avoidance was the key, I thought, for there upon the grass, Were mounds of oozing stench that something left at every pass; The flies were thick, they stuck like glue, to every steaming pile … I plugged my nose and trudged on through, for mile after mile. I never knew what left the mess, it stayed a step ahead, Depositing a trail of waste, that I dealt with instead; "This was my life," I sighed out loud, and gave a little groan, "I'm knee-deep in a pile of crap, and fighting it alone!" I chose the path that led me here, and if I wanted out, I'd have to forge ahead through all the muck that lay about. I screamed into the distance, "I have had it!" I confessed, "I can't continue on like this - I will not be repressed!" I gathered up my strength, I gave another yell, and grinned … I raced ahead, not looking down, threw caution to the wind! I plowed through heaps of dirt and gunk, ignoring my disgust, I left behind a cloud of flies to hover in my dust! I finally reached a hill, and when I made it to the crest, I shrieked a grand "Yahoo!!!" It looked like I had passed the test! Beyond the rise, I saw the landscape change - I thought I'd won … But little did I know, my fight had only just begun. Descending down the hill, I heard a sound come from the right, An eerie kind of snort, that filled my mind with sudden fright; I heard the grunt again, and felt a chill run through my back, Then turned to face an angry bull, all set for an attack! I stood in shock and terror, facing down my nemesis, He must have been the culprit who had put me through all this! The monster lurched ahead of me, stood squarely in my way, He didn't know I'd had enough of all his crap today! I glanced behind his massive frame, to where I wished to be, I knew I'd rather deal with him … than turn around and flee! He stared me down, I glared right back, our stand-off had begun, "If anyone is moving, bull …" I shouted … "You're the one!" With that, his head came down a notch, his hoof pawed at the ground, He roared a mighty warrior cry - My heart began to pound! He barreled straight toward me, but I never gave an inch, In seconds, he was on me, but I didn't even flinch! I grabbed that bull right by the horns, to both of our surprise … He raised me up, from off the ground - I looked into his eyes … His stare was black and evil, and his breath was on my face, It reeked of all I'd come to loathe, within this putrid place. I dangled from the ground, and looked beyond his crazy glare, Inside, his heart was empty - I could see he didn't care … He tossed me in the air, at least 10 feet or more, I swear, But my determination gave me strength beyond compare! I sank back down, and landed with a thump upon his hide, Then held on for the life of me, and readied for the ride! He bucked and pawed, he reeled and swayed, he snorted, huffed and groaned, But I held on to my last chance, I would not be dethroned! I rode that bucking bull, I kept my grip and held on tight, No way, was I about to lose my future to this fight! I rode it out and felt my strength increase, while his withdrew, His movements slowly lessened - He had lost the fight, he knew. Adrenaline pumped through my veins, defeat no longer mine, I stayed on top and steered that bull toward my victory line; I pulled him up beside a fence, slid down the other side, A barrier, between us now … to act as our divide. He looked defeated, gave a snort, and moved along his way, Toward his dirty pasture, where he'd fight another day; I turned and saw my future, where the grass was green and clear, I'd made it past the bull … and I had nothing left to fear. /Kit McCallum . It is true that we are in charge our own destinies and sometimes will have to grab a bull by the horns, taking control of our lives and not letting life control us. Much enjoyed, Kit. The stars will shine when I am gone, |

Kit, Oh BABY! You're the one. That was delightful. Thanks for the smile on my face. P.S. Nancy Leed enjoyed as much as me! If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Kit, You rode the bull I can surmise But that to me is no surprise. I knew you had the guts to ride The wave of dung that rides the tide. A wonderful write and read. |

Kit, This was a wild ride indeed! I loved every chuckle of it. Sometimes we do have to wade through it, stare em down, and worry about clean-up and damage control when we get where we need to be. YEEEEEEHAAAAH!!! |

Awesome Kit. This has all the factors of a great poem tied into an easily (and fun) readable rhyme (don't tell anyone i said that...). You took an old phrase by the horns and whipped it into shape. Love this! |

Whew is is it over? You did it and this too? You are amazing! I spent an hour trying to find a graphic to go with this, but there were no cow pies shaped liked year-end analyses anywhere LOL. Kit, both you and Mike are in a league all your own that is for sure. Loved this one. I can still see you dodging them in the field and am laughing myself silly here. |
