Mr. Johnny’s Birthday

Tis Mr. Johnny’s birthday, he’s 73 today
He’s spent his life as a fisherman’s wife, feeding antelopes with hay.
Tis Mr. Johnny’s birthday, and what a day it is
Jelly with sausage for breakfast with a glass of cucumber fizz!
Tis Mr. Johnny’s birthday, he awoke at 3 am
Checked the post ate some toast, then went to bed again.
Tis Mr. Johnny’s birthday, the postman knocks the door
So Mr. Johnny invites him in as he’s always done before.
Tis Mr. Johnny’s birthday, “would you care for a cup of tea”?
“I’d love to but I don’t have time, I finish my shift at three”.
Tis Mr. Johnny’s birthday, with parcels piled up high
He thinks of his youth and a wisdom tooth then suddenly starts to cry.
Tis Mr. Johnny’s birthday, yet no ones come to call
Perhaps his friends forgot he thinks, well damn and blast them all!
Tis Mr. Johnny’s birthday, but off he goes to bed
“I’ll forget my birthday was today and pretend it’s tomorrow instead”!

lol and ouch, although I laughed at the cleverness in this I felt the barb of bitterness underlying it all. Well done!

Very good, Dan Wood...

My mother-in-law just celebrated her 94th...
and received 86 cards throughout the week.

It was a very good week for her.

(big hugggsssssssss) Oh Dan, this is so very sad, sweet friend, I believe every birthday is one that should never be ignored as birthdays to me have a spiritual significance behind them, of how great it is to be alive and to cherish life with loved ones! (sigh) My heart goes out to Johnny and all whoa re neglected like this, sweet friend, this is very sensitive yet clever and playful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Dan, thank you for sharing!

This poem has an in-your-face attitude with undertones of loneliness and bitteness--but with touches of non-sensical whimsy thrown into the mix.
