This poem in Bomba Rhythm of another island Sister to my own This poem is not white And did not grow up with the Brady Bunch, or Mr. Rodgers It is not polite and does not mind its manners It does not fit into a nice neat little space And does not go well with TV dinners This poem does not watch “friends” This poem is written for those who are placed where they don’t fit Who have to pretend they like a culture they don’t Who have to make do with frozen food and TV dinners and Mickey D’s. This poem is written for those who only feel that they have a culture And that they have a home, And in the end find out that they don’t have one really. And the secret is that the more you travel, The more you realize That this thing we call identity Doesn’t really exist |

I believe it's best to view yourself as a global citizen anyway. It's just one tiny planet in the overall scheme of the universe. So for me, your poem is universal. |

Wouldn't want to burst su bomba, but some of we blancos don't Brady, never Rogered,no coma las cenas de T.V, still have manners and manage to walk with a lilt (and sometimes swagger). No one appreciates attacking the status quo more than I who works at knowing thine enemy. Appreciate the jab, work on the cross. |

Bomba! Bomba me dice el bombero y yo le meto un bombaso! Y esa negrita es mi mujer, la diosa de mis abrazos! Bomba! LOL I enjoyed the read. Stereotyping is something we should all be certainly made aware of. Thanks for doing so in this poetic way. God bless! [This message has been edited by Radrook (11-24-2002 01:35 PM).] |

A good read...I disagree with a few points, but I did like Kacy's comment, in that this could be seen as universal for some, but then, it is all in one's perspective...Thanks for sharing! |
