In the Autumn ofMy Years

Old man winter whispers
Frosty fall wind incantations
Upon the once verdant meadows
Where the fawns grazed
And wild horses pranced
Carefree on fine spring days
I whirl and spin , a crisp fall dance
My only witness
A lone prickly cactus
Competing for the glow of sun

I remember our long walks
On warm spring garden path
Scented with fragrant pines
And wild flowers
And afterwards;
Where we conversed for hours
intimate moments by fireside,
silent music of our hearts beating
a love song while
you kissed me
eyes, full of promise
so sweet and tender,
warming my soul
as I remember
in the autumn of my years

Poetry is:
Passion, imagination and intellect running together.

Aloha with warmest regards, Cheryl Stewart Koomoa

Cher, you spoke with such eloquence and directly to my soul. You dear poetess, age with such grace and have been blessed with memorable springs. I believe that there are four seasons in each of the four seasons of our lives--so you have many springtimes yet to enjoy! They may not be as verdant, but they will be of a richer, golden green...

Blooming Rose: Many of my romantic poems are based on memories more often than not....I am a dreamer
Thanks for your words

Earth Angel: I am in love with a man who makes me feel like spring..
That is all that matters...
Sometimes when we are young we don't really evaluate properly in our relationships the realities and truthof the whole person...
Lust is mistaken for love and is an empty endeavor...
As we mature it is possible to truly love, if we have truly allowed truth to mature us.
Thanks for your always wise words and kindness.

Enchantress: I am pleased that this touched you as I can identify with so many of your
poems in all of their richness

We shall all just grow into better and better poets as we grow...
Big hugs to you all, Cher

Fall forces introspection and there's nothing wrong with that. The trick is to shine on those better memories. Enjoyed.

Oh Cheryl, this is such a beautiful love poem. I like the way you brought out the seasons in the periods of life, too. Very good.
Thanks for sharing.

autumn seems to almost mourn for summer and spring in your mind. but do not ignore the glory of storms or falling leaves golden red and yellow.

Cher,  that is how it should be....though
you may be in the autumn of your years,
when you are made to feel as though spring
is here,  nothing more can be asked for...
nor needed...

Beautiful words and a smile on my lips for
ya!
