Rewrite Repost: Surcease Surcease for me a rocking chair. My naked feet high in the air Belching echoes’ of moans and groans Resting this weary bag of bones. Where little good of me remains With time worn hands and liver stains And now another feature share I’ve lost that lovely head of hair. Some tokens heal, my cat surcease I knead her as I think on peace She answers me with purrs so loud They dull the closing aging shroud. I quell within my rocking chair Sooth the flares of pain I bear Reduce the groans and undertones And try to rest this bag of bones. With rest my eyes begin to close I drift away and start to doze. And when I doze I am passé Of age, of pain and resume |

It is interesting when you come up with a poem where at first, it seems you're not saying much, the reality is you've said so much, not surprising. I love this poem. Could hear each squeaking rock of the chair and the satisfied cat. Mmmmm, made me sleepy and I just woke up! Warm Regards, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |

I enjoyed this read a lot. Your playful regard to aging was light and airy, but I have to say I enjoyed the flow of rhythm and sounds in this most of all. Truly a delightful read, effervescent in its feel, despite the plaintive message. It exudes a joy in aging as opposed to the opposite or consequence of not aging. Mr. T.--I love you! There, I've proclaimed it for the whole world to see! You are wise, you are kind, you are loving, you are humble, you are talented, you are romantic--- and you are hysterically funny! P.S. I can't get the comical visual out of my mind of you naked in a rocking chair with your feet up in the air! hahahaha I love it! EA |

That bag of bones of which you write Is the frame of a poet whose words shed light. Each verse rings true and thereby portends, The fate we share as lifetime friends. As you ease yourself into your rest, With faithful cat perched on your chest, Close your eyes and rest my friend, You're here with us, through your fine pen. Sy - You write some of the tighest poetry I've ever read. Your poems have a twist in their words that makes me stop to think, "How did he manage that?" |
