Always Focusing On Himself
~ By Sue ~

The pain I feel each time I think
About him doing all of that drinking
Is something I can not explain
All I can do is say I am hurting

When will the pain leave me
I know that he and I can not be together
Still it hurts just the same
That he thought the beer was better

With his drink I could not compete
To him his drinking was the best
No matter what I tried to do
I could not pass the test

To beg and plead for him to stop
Would do me no good, this I knew
Once the alcohol got ahold of him
There was just nothing I could do

I am not one to beg and plead
Maybe I should have tried this too
Even if I thought this would work
This is something I could not do

To him there is nothing
More important than his drinking
It takes his troubles all away
This is the way he is thinking

An alcoholic is so self-centered
He never thinks of anyone else
Or the pain he does cause
He is always focusing on himself

I have my good days! And, I have my bad days! Today seems to be one of the bad. Please forgive me.

There is nothing to forgive Sue, you are allowed your bad days too.

This is a truth you have written here. Alcoholics, are by nature, selfish and self-centered.

Sue, I have to agree with WhiteRose. There is no need to ask for anyone's forgiveness. You have been through so much and are allowed to have bad days.

Hang in there, tomorrow's another day and it will be brighter.  Hugs, Marti

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Sue, there is no need to forgive at all, sweet friend, sadly alcoholism is a common thing and we all have our bad days and we all have our good days! (sad sigh) I send angel hugs your way today, keep your chin up, for there are many good days ahead for you too, my thoughts are with you, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Sue - addictions of any kind make the person selfish and self-centered, and make the ones who love them frustrated and hurt. We can't change anyone but ourselves, and we must take care of ourselves first. This is a hard lesson to learn - believe me. Well written piece of work here. Chris

I am sorry you have had to go through this. I went through the same thing as you, and I felt the same as you. It's a choice they make, and you are absolutley correct in saying there is nothing you can do.
It's their choice, which leaves us no choice but to move on. I chose NOT to live like that.
I wish you the best.

Hugs,
Deb

Dear sweet Sue.....
Friend, you don't need to apologize for your feelings. As the others said, we all have "one of those days". I hope you'll feel better soon.

the pain will leave you once you leave the situation...three years it took me to see this, but it's okay now, I'm still alive and he made his choices. He lives with them somehow.
