In From the Cold

Coming in from the cold
a blast of heat slaps you in the face
but then
reaches its arm around your shoulders
and pulls you in
in
to the promise of its comfort
in
where camaraderie waits
in memories of comfort food
warm coffee
cat fur
with meows of “Hello.”

Over-stuffed furniture
waits to do its duty
yet you pass by
seeking a word
from someone,
anyone,
a kind of,
“Welcome home.”

The message machine
doesn’t flash,
but alas,
just perhaps
the online line
will bring results.

Maybe someone stopped in
looking for your eyes to see
what they thought of thee
or of the leaking
of your cyber-pen
upon the pages
of space.

Reward!
It’s good to be home.

Welcome, Virginia...I love this "home of blue" we've found here, too. This is a cute poem to me.

BTW...I've just got to thank you for the laugh I got from your reply on the "Run" poem. I'm still giggling. You turned my tickle box over for some reason. In fact, I keep seeing everybody tapping their foot and it's so comical. Can you just see somebody watching us through the window or something?!? HaHa!! Oh, I found my foot doing the same as yours when I came to the end of a line. Goodness, I can't quit giggling!!
(I decided to come back here just to let anyone else who may read this know that I'm in no way making fun of a poem. I just thought it was a cute and funny picture of all of us sitting at our computers tapping our feet while reading the poem. I wondered last night when I read it if everybody else was going to do what I did. Apparently so!!!!)

Virginia, This is really wonderful and so true....we can always come home, stay as long as we want, be dressed in our jammies and even have coffee stains on our shirts....he he heee!! There isn't anyone here to scold "tsk..tsk..tsk." hugs, Chris
