Ode to Shakespeare

He traced the soul of man with a pen,
cut it in little pieces
and wove it into a drama of life
that would be loved and
repeated through the ages.

So splendid the lyrics,
they could never be described
but only repeated
by the voices who memorized
Life,
for none could sketch it
with his own hand

Once memorized, the phrases
sang out to the world
and within each ear resounded
the wisdom of the master poet,
and a portrait of every soul
scrolled on a piece of paper

And every phrase gave
new life to the bloodstream
and more depth to the mind,

For his words of beauty were such
that they were strung across
the timeless universe
so that each soul now reaches
for a constellation
formed by twilight words
that glisten ever brighter
in the blackness
of space

Sorry I could not do justice
but it was a humble attempt

Liz,  I don't believe any of us can do his words
justice by tribute to them....  I too,
can only do so very humbly and with the
feel of never having said quite enough.

Your words do speak volumes of who he was
and what he gave to the world...

Enjoyed very much...

Oh Pah!  Any tribute to a great writer is justice indeed, for it means they did their job in touching others, but for some to span the generations as Shakespeare has...well then.

Just recently and for the first time I saw Othello on stage...I'm hooked.

Thank you for this, Lady Santos.

Liz, you do Shakespeare justice in every poem you write. This tribute is wonderful. He is my favorite - such perfection in poetry!!!

I wish everyone got hooked on 'Will'!!
