Pick-up

Thoughts,
while driving past where I grew up
playing baseball games
like "double-or-nothing" and "over-the-line",
slip back
through the non-competitive maze
of playground equipment to

friendship

then,
meant having enough for "hot-box"
and that sweet, near panic moment
when my back arched to escape being touched
by the glove of a girl shortstop
reaching out.
