If left on its own The skin Will eventually Rid itself Of a hurtful splinter Or encompass it Completely If it lies Too deep |

that is of course if the skin isn't wrapped around someone like me, who would pick at it till it was out..... |

Wow! What words of wisdom you have placed upon the page, encompassing far more than the eye might see. Well done! It seems that having been written during the right era, it would have found its niche within the pages of Proverbs. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

DANG! Talk about profound! I think I still have part of one stuck inside. But I leave it alone, as it occasionally festers into a halfway decent (masochistic?) poem. |

And there is the kind that lies there deep enough so you can't get it out but you can still see it. It mocks you, knowing you'll never rid yourself of it. Taken at face value - this is a good poem. But to read between the lines and under the surface, it's an excellent metaphorical piece. I really enjoyed it sir. |

I hate splinters,... This one time when i was a little kid i went over to my nieghbore to play with their dog, and i was sliding down the wood. ( It was pointing down, lol ) and i got a HUDGE splinter in my hand, And then she had to use a big needle and never got it out, but it was like three day after i bit it out. I wish to become a great poet some day, but it will only come in time. Til then, I shall write my poems, and wait. |

Ed, you do seem to be having your share of physical problems as of late. I think you need a full-time nurse to care for you. I enjoyed reading the poem at face value, but then I decided to "dig" deeper! And voila, I discovered a poem within a poem! How very clever of you! I guess you don't need this nurse to care for you afterall! tehe Linda |

The struggles with self have never been explained better than in these few lines. Quite frankly one of the best poems I've ever read. |
