Mongoose
By: Noah Eaton
11/12/02

Underground the ubiquitous usurping urban sprawl
Fiery fervent eyes focus under the fallow foxgloves
Ivory fangs hidden behind a gruesome smile
Throats cleared, can be heard in the courts

Can the real Rikki-Tikki Tavi please stand up?
Can the nightingale address the ministry?
Objections become objectionate
Sustained, then overuled when you're not even listening

Who is the murderer?
Who is the victim here?
Is it the one playing these strings?
Or the one writing these words as they appear?
The spinning wheels reeling on your forehead
Your words become a tuft of feathers
Are they among the disassociate
The disarticulate
The disaggregate
The disambigulate
The spinning wheels reeling on your forehead
What do you have to share?

Where's the amnesty?
Without it it's like shooting
A mongoose
The cobras on the loose
We can't afford a truce
Mongoose...
Where are you?

You make a sluice to run away
Your hindsight is bungalowed
You take Darzee's Chaunt to your flag ceremony
Revising the whole metonymy from its trope

Any lion is not dumb enough
To memorize the thorn he steps his paw upon
And the face of the one who takes it out
But the splinters are all bedding these ruins
Where Androcles is but a stranger
Jailed away in the colliseum, hearing every blind mans tout

Who is the murderer?
Who is the victim here?
Is it the one playing this guitar?
Or the one writing these lyrics as they appear?
The spinning wheels reeling on your forehead
Your words become a tuft of feathers
Could it be the tailors
The caters.
The prince or
the pauper?
The spinning wheels reeling on your forehead
What do you have to share?

Where's the amnesty?
Without it it's like shooting
A mongoose
The cobras on the loose
We can't afford a truce
Mongoose...
Where are you?

Can't you see what's happening?
We can't tell each other apart anymore
It's time to clear our names
Rid of hate and take account for our mistakes
It's like playing a game of chess
Without a king to take his claim

Where's the amnesty?
Without it it's like shooting
A mongoose
The cobras on the loose
We can't afford a truce
Mongoose...
Where are you?

We're murdering ourselves...
We're murdering ourselves...
Take these cobras away...
Rikki-Tikki Tavi...
If you still go by that name...

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Shakira

Absolutely fascinating read, the weaving of past and present and future "bewares" is marvelous! The playful rhyming and the rhythm is impeccable.

Congrats on your 19000+ post, and the thing that makes it such a wondrous number...the bulk, a hug percentage of your posts are to respond to others with your heart.  Now, I see it's apparently been 3 days since you posted one of your original poems, so are you feeling okay? I hope so!

Now, Noah, how in the world did I miss this one? And, it's a very big milestone, too.I look for your poems. (Oh, I just noticed that you posted it on one of the days I was gone to visit Gary the last time....BTW, we're going to be together again this coming weekend, we hope and pray).

As I do all of your poems, I loved this one, too, sweet Noah.
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 19,000th post.
that's really something...and not even two years, yet.
I truly enjoy everyone of your poems and your replies to others. You are a very important part of this wonderful Passions In Poetry.
Thanks for sharing your heart, Noah. We all love you here.

Congratulations, Noah...how blessed this group is to have you. Your love and kind words, especially to new poets, a little timid and unsure of themselves, I'm sure, helps bridge that gap causing them to feel like they are  included and welcome, and that what they have to say, in their own way, ~is~ valuable.  And, you do it like no other....Such a loving, kind heart you have.

This poem is awesome! How talented you are.

God Bless You for your loving ways,
Hugs to you and warm regards, Pat

..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons..
