My father helps to guide my pen I feel him with me as I write My newfound love of writing Has given me a new insight Before my father died I had never written a word Then all at once I felt the need For my inner voice to be heard So I began to pen my feelings About the man who I adored Then I'd write of love and nature And my spirit began to soar My words held so much power As they surged throughout my veins I was like a horse who'd bolted But no one held the reins I began to expose my feelings From within my heart and soul And you listened so intently Of how grief had taken its toll You gave me warmth and comfort And held my hand so many times You encouraged and inspired me As you read my many rhymes The friend's I've made are many Such a special bond we share As I give my heartfelt thanks To show you how much I care * * * "We drop like pebbles into the ponds of each other's souls" I am in motion I am blue Love is an ocean I'm anchored in you - Shawn Mullins [This message has been edited by Suetang (10-14-2002 08:17 PM).] |

Very touching, Suetang. My experience was the same. I wrote a 'letter' to my Dad for his funeral service and the first poem that I wrote was the first Father's Day after he passed away. I just had an overwhelming need to write. Funny, I'd never written a thing before that. Your poem is very lovely! |

This is wonderful Sue! And, you know...your dad is watching you... and he is so very very proud. I know how much he inspires you to write... you mention him with love quite often. ~Heart-hugs~ ~ Time has cast a spell on you |

Thank you Denise and, yes, I have heard from so many others that their writing began after losing someone they loved. I find it amazing as to how sudden it all started and that the words still flow even stronger than the beginning. Thank you for your kind words. Take care......Sue I am in motion |

Sue, Somehow I missed this when you first posted it. It's so touching and your Dad IS so proud of you. I'm so glad you write; I just love all your poems. They touch a part of my soul. I am so grateful that we've become friends even if a zillion miles seperate us. Our computers and cyberspeace keep us close. Hugs my friend, Marti |

Sue, I'm glad that you reposted this, too. I love to read poems that are written from the heart, and I can tell that this is certainly from your heart. Thanks for sharing this. Love To All, Ethel |

Sue, I truly believe as you do, that those who begin writing after the loss of a loved one, are being guided by them to express themselves. This eases the grieving process and promotes healing. Your Dad's a wonderful poet! (as are you!) Linda |

Sue: A beautiful, heart-felt poem! I have known a number of people who began writing after the death of a loved one. Perhaps it is a way to fill the void left by their passing. Betty Lou Hebert |

I enjoyed reading this. It was beautifully written. You are a natural poet. Keep them coming. This was very genuine and heartfelt, and it touched me in a way that many poems here do. Thank you for re-posting it and sharing it again. "Love me little, Love me long, Is the burden of my song" - Robert Herrick |
