A canopy fell, covering the horrors of man’s desire for freedom... White, mingling with crimson, crimson with blue, with gray.. The sounds of cannon stilled... Only the ringing, incessant ringing now plaguing the mind’s ear... That....and the screams... Thousands lying in still slumber, no longer bleeding life, no moans in anguish, tears now frozen in captured starkness.. Distant campfires lighting the horizon as glowing orange in the backdrop remind one of the siege, the burning of countless homes, history removing history....yet, soon to be again built... Freedom will drive the nails into hardest oak, most smooth of pines.. Sap still seeping, needles fresh on the ground... Brothers standing, sipping a once fresh cup of coffee...Now cold, almost frozen...not even noticed. For numbness has taken away the daydreams, the feelings, the hope...replaced by... By the screams, now silent, yet heard...Countless nights they shall linger within a tormented mind....waking to tears... waking to the cries for mothers.. for fathers...for a brother or sister lost in a senseless war... O but the price of freedom, ever great the burden of war. As mothers cry, as children die, as man, selfish man....snatches one’s essence from the soil of life, waiting the next planted seed to grow...that the scythe might again cut the wheat from the chaff of life.... To be crushed, sifted, ground, to the fine powdery consistency of dust....Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.... |

Magnus darling heart, when you write like this my heart hears the sounds so clearly my soul feels the ripping apart of lives and souls. There is within your writing an indefinable something that lifts it always out of the ordinary and mundane your writing could never be described that way. When you write I’m transported in time and space to the time the instant the scene plays on my minds eye and I feel the whole experience. You have so much talent darling heart, and when you spill it onto these pages I’m astounded by the power of your words. Truly I love this utterly utterly utterly but you knew that didn’t you darling man, of course, your writing never fails to grace my library. I love it Love and warm stuff as always Mushy Breathe through the heat of our desire Thy coolness and they balm Let sense be dumb let flesh retire Speak through the earthquake wind and fire [This message has been edited by Marsha (11-01-2002 09:02 PM).] |

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Barry, you speak with the knowledge of history and philosophy so well here, sweet friend, it seems the seeds continue to be spread like those of dandelions and only can we pray for our next brothers and sisters who run the world we pass on in legacy! (big huggssssss) This is very well-said, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

This is a remarkable poem on the American Civil War (n'est-ce pas?--is it not?). There are so many intriguing aspects to both you and your poetry. ~ I doff my halo to you, dear Poet! EA |

Barry - I have read much and visited many Civil War battlefields. It's amazing of the slaughter that happened back then. Hallowed places I have walked upon... BC |
