Old Soles Lined up in crooked, careless rows in wet grass along the driveway, they long to belong again, but arranged in an unwanted way. We pass them by without a glance. Shiny, glued-on glittery things catch our eyes and fetch our silver. Tag sale to garbage, tipping wings. Shelved in stores for second chances, there is no hiding their despair, stories to tell of the street’s beat, what an end – this forgotten pair. Pink satin, they graced grand aisles of better days for this couple, stepped lightly, a wedded first dance, now all they can do is shuffle. This black pair dressed up only once, never traveled a single day. It was the fires that claimed them, they were slipped on, then slipped away. © 2002 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (10-31-2002 03:04 PM).] |

This black pair dressed up only once, never traveled a single day. It was the fires that claimed them, they were slipped on, then slipped away. WOW..I never excepted a poem about shoes (on the top layer at least) to leave me breathless but such is the power of your poetry. The ladders of life that we scale merrily Move mysteriously around So that when you think you're climbing up, man In fact you're climbing down-Nick ca |

Corrine, You surpised me with this poem. I thought it was going to be a humorous poem, with the title....but you brought out a lot of good thoughts. Thanks for sharing. Love to All, Ethel |
