Conversation with a Tree I sit beneath the Crepe Myrtle, her orange-yellow snowdrift falling around me, inscribed leaflets narrating her stories. I catch a few, spread them out and look for differences, but each reads the same, recounting hardships of the year. She says it didn’t rain enough; I realize I didn’t bother to water her this summer. I’ve been remiss in a lot of things this year, I reply, and I’m as root bound as she. Her limbs point upward to the oak hovering above her - there wasn’t enough sunlight to make her flowers grow. I respond with tears and let her know I feel as barren. The oak tree grins down and spits acorns at us. © 2002 Corinne Bailey |

Corinne, what a beautiful yet sad write. Wonderful thoughts of longing and things not accomplished. ~Hugs sweet poetess~ ~ Time has cast a spell on you |

![]() (big hugggsssssss) Oh Corinne, my heart goes out to you, sweet friend, you are in my thoughts as I understand this sorrow and the ridicule that it can give! (sigh) This is touching, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing! ![]() May love and light always shine upon you! Darn oaks. Enjoyed the eavesdrop. No matter how good looking she is... someone, somewhere is glad she's gone. |

Hi Corinne, I've never heard of a Crepe Myrtle tree but it does sound lovely-- I have a book on trees so I think I'll look it up. Your poem was lovely, I enjoyed very much. caterina |

"The oak grins down and spits acorns at us" I know what you mean! I love cherries and they're full of pits! This was a great poem with sad undertones. Maybe you could make amends by hugging the tree. It will be good for both your spirits. EA |

Corinne Nature has so many similarities to some of the struggles we humans have...I fine lessons in the garden often. I enjoyed this very much! |
