                  LEAVING

              The leaves
               are in no hurry
           to unclasp.
                 The notion makes
          them rust in anger,
                     blush embarrassed,
                 yellow in anxiety.
          They meander through the void
                   away from umbilical certainty.
               Yet even in their naivete
             aware that landing
          splay in brown brittleness,
        awaiting suffocation
          by siblings
                or trampled by strangers
                   is
                   an
               ignoble end.

                  ICING SNOW

          Fragile filiforms conceived of
light and air far from heat, from
          clatter. Shining individualists

so young and 60ish in anti-soar
          innocence. Take wing from cottoned
nest in ballet flight. Your downy

          pageantry, airy disregard assured
          in brother/sisterhood, the safety
of numbers. Unseen in your drafting,

          unknown the compact death
          its warm reception
          its ruined run.

I especially enjoyed "Leaving"...and cannot help but disagree a little, in that their end is not futile, but only adds to next years growth as mulch as anything else...[poor pun...but what the hey, I read the poem, yes? LOL...]

Thank you, Richard.  Good reading....

I so enjoy your poetry. It is a treat.
I cannot even say these are especially good, because they all are.

I thought ignoble was quite fitting, considering the magnificent specimen they were.

Thanking you ever so much,
Warmly, Pat

Thank you all. Ah Sunshine....made you look! I suppose the same could be said for us and our end as fertilizer. Viva la difference that your Sun shines all the brighter against my darker nature

Both very nice but I liked the snow one best.  I love snowflakes and to relate them to a ballet, that comes to a sad ending, and lest we forget the dogs passing by

I wish the leaves had shown a different ending, as they truly are the re-birth of better things each year.  I actually pick certain ones to protect and "take care" of my plants over the winter.  Each leaf does indeed have a purpose - yada yada yada  - nicely done Richard.

very very cool employ of theme, imagery, color, analogy and personification, written with your unique perspective.

Two fantastic pieces...the 2nd has a depth that I know I'll have to go after with subsequent reads. The first, wow! The form is priceless for the imagery within. The intro is by far the 'graspingest' part of it:

The leaves
                                      are in no hurry
                                  to unclasp.
                                        The notion makes
                                 them rust in anger,
                                            blush embarrassed,
                                        yellow in anxiety.

I'm positive it won't appear on the page as yours did, how did you get the 'thing' to accept the spacing, etc?

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Liked the 'Leaving' very much.  I love Fall, though this year summer seems to have gone straight into winter, leaves still clinging to the trees.

No matter how good looking she is... someone, somewhere is glad she's gone.
