Etched in the illusion of time

0 posted 2003-01-18 11:06 AM

I wrote this one back in about October...It's one of my olde ones....But, I hope you enjoy.
The sky grows ominous
There is something dangerous in the air
The trees quiver in fear
Frightened by the howls of the wind

The air begins to thicken
Smothering the land in a wet cloak
An angry rumbling fills the air
As the sky spills its rage

Like an unruly child
The fuming clouds can no longer be contained
Threatening to unleash what they so tightly hold
They descend on the trembling land

A flaming sword slashes the clouds
Spilling out all that they hold
Rain falls like the tears of a repentant sinner
Until the sun arrives to forgive and console

Peace returns to the earth
Trees stand tall as they once were
They sky has lost all fury
And endangers earth no more

Absolutely beautiful and I'm not at all surprised it was published but...having read a few of your others if I'm honest I wouldn't have picked this as the best one

I'd have forgotten about this one if no one had bumped it! Thanks...I agree, idleeyes...I definately think all my others are much better than this. It only goes to show how much I've changed as a poet since October.

"A flaming sword slashes the clouds

This is my favorite stanza, although the whole thing is really good. Nice job.
