School Starts Today They’re off to school They’re off to school They’re chomping at the bit! Yet, some are hangin’ on to Mama and throwin’ quite a fit! You see, there’s mixed emotions in the clamor that you see; some are quite excited, some are filled with glee. But some of them’s sweet Mama is almost all they’ve ever known and getting them to let go may take a mighty shove. That would not set too well with most every one they’d meet so it’s going to take a teacher who’s mighty extra sweet. Kindergarten, kindergarten and adventure of renown can make or break a school career bringing smile or a frown. So mothers and fathers, around the world, take heed, be extra loving, extra caring, when sending Johnny off to read. Let him know school matters in one’s seasons of life and let Sweet Sue know, without a doubt, she can be more than someone’s wife. Being help-mate to someone you love is honorable indeed, but better help-mates come for sure in those who’ve learned to read. Recipes and manuals of harvest, auto care and such will give a help-mate power to have a strong, yet gentle touch. Wisdom comes from learning and from living life to full just as much as play alone can make Sue or Johnny dull. ©August 28, 2002 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

I have one left to get in school but that won't be until next year.... Great write.... made me smile ~~ Connie ~~ |

This is GREAT!! And also very true, may your children thank the Lord to have a Mom like you.... I just love to rhyme!!! LOL If you don't have any children yet, I have 3, then you are already ahead of the game in the understanding department. Looking forward to reading more of your work. Peace, love, light and happiness TAmmy |

Really like this one VAS...good write...I never held on to mama or tried to get her to go with me.....(Usually the school called her later to come get me or to talk to her about my behaviour)....actually, my parents were at my school more than I was....(and it shows when you read my "so-called" poetry) |

Now you are the kind of teacher to whom parents can confidantly entrust the care of their children! |

![]() (big hugggssssss) Oh Virginia, this is so very true, the thing that saddens me though is how nowadays children that are young are so over-scheduled and how all these tests and homework cramp childrens minds and gives them little time to have fun and play and, like Johnny, makes kids feel so dull! I started my first year of college on Monday and take my work rather seriously, yet I too have had these pressures, with my dad bickering to me "Are you sure you don't have anything else in study?" and making it feel like I'm lazy and not letting me enjoy myself! (sigh) This is wonderfully expressed, sweet friend, I wish all your kids the best sucess, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Virginia, thank you for sharing! ![]() May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Thanks, all, for the incredibly encouraging remarks! Since I'm a substitute teacher, and my daughter is all grown, it's hard to think I have "kids" since I don't have a particular classroom. But I will accept your good wishes and prayers for all kids in schools across our nation! Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

This brings back so many memories, Virginia. My son, Victor was always so full of mischief, I was sure he was going to be a handful in school... but when we went to our first conference with his kindergarten teacher... she shocked us by telling us that he was the best behaved student she had! He just loved school so much, and he always did... He just took to it like a duck to water. We should have sent him sooner...except they wouldn't have taken him because he was too young! Thanks for the memories... ![]() Lyra |
