Sunflowers Sincerity I only wanted honesty... not long stemmed suave, over-priced, mass produced bouquet; No red roses that wilt too soon in kiss with thorns on green, and fancy ribbons of debonair dance with lies. Only sunflowers, perhaps two or three, or etchings in the sand; the common things, a three-leaf clover, your jacket, warmth, a walk in the rain, your hand and mask removed, some trifling imperfection I could fall in love with. Too much is too little, when your eyes are blank in mine when each hello has the echo of goodbye. I asked for truth, just sincerity...only sunflowers, not exaggerated promises and expensive emptiness. Some trifling imperfection I would have loved. By Melissa P. Monette |

Oooh I could just feel the pain oozing from this piece, Melissa... So very well written indeed... btw... I also love sunflowers and daisies... I carried sunflowers in my wedding bouquet, along with some autumn leaves... Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us. ~ hugs and sunflowers Lyra |

Honeybee There is nothing better than honest, simple...like the sunflower...unless it is the sweet pea. Enjoyed this! |

"Only sunflowers, perhaps two or three, or etchings in the sand; the common things, a three-leaf clover, your jacket, warmth, a walk in the rain, your hand and mask removed, some trifling imperfection I could fall in love with." This says it all, as far as I can see. You don't ask for much, only honest feelings. Wonderfully penned, Melissa. *hugs* [This message has been edited by Auguste (08-24-2002 11:24 PM).] |

Honeybee - just one sunflower or two or three is not a whole lot to ask for. A very compelling poem... BC |

Does seem like the very least to ask for, and I hope you find the one that provides the reality and beauty, all in one. Sandra |

To think I almost missed this, because, to tell you the truth I don't really like sunflowers much. But this poem, this poem is wonderful. A great write. I especially like the final thought. Just a trifling imperfection. Loved it! |

Melissa- This is so sad, and yet so beautiful as well. This just reached in and grabbed my heart and had me hanging on every word. There is much truth in these words, my friend. VERY well said. Melissa, you are such a gifted poet, but with these lines: "I asked for truth, just sincerity...only sunflowers, not exaggerated promises and expensive emptiness." you simply took my breath away. |
