Life's not simple, all ups and downs, Joys and sorrows, smiles and frowns. I've had both, but lately it seems The frowns and sorrows, encompass my dreams. My friends and family, are mostly gone, Memories of past, have haunted so long. I ponder my life, as I've reached middle age, Is this a final chapter? Should I write another page? Listen to experience, the message I send, The valuable things, that this short life gives, Are the laughter and love, From family and friends. |

Toe, I am persuaded that middle age is an excellent time of life. But wisdom, I have discovered comes with much pain. Grief and loss are a part of life and until one has experienced that they have only partially lived. Much compassion can grow from sorrow. But I guess I'm preaching to the choir... Nice write. Much enjoyed! If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

That they are...are you an orphan now, too? I'm wondering, if actually, since the child 'becomes the parent' if those who lose their parents to death are really not orphaned at all, as long as they have children who come to call. I think I'll tap into that thought instead of the way my grandma went...she outlived her 3 husbands and then her 3 sons, too, but she had grand children...wouldn't they do? Alas, it seemed it didn't for she pined away her last 2 years. Say, Toerag, btw, did you see my poem below "Olde Cars," it's a true story. Maybe you have some automotive advice for this friend. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, I'll seek the lighthouse evermore. [This message has been edited by VAS (08-22-2002 04:31 PM).] |

Kitty, I don't dislike cats, that's longjohn, (I like them fried, grilled, and the kittens make great food for my Boa and Pirahna?....)...just kidding, but you have me confused with LJA |

Very true words - enjoyed. Chris Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away. |

Definitely! Write another page, Toe. Friends aren't family, but you do get to pick 'em and keep picking 'em as long as you like. S Arthur |

I really liked this write a whole lot, Mr.Toe. I guess I'm not used to your serious, sensitive side...but I knew you had one hidden there someplace... thanks for letting it out of the closet and sharing it with all of us. Its scary to get old, but even scarier to think that you won't... Please write that other page and make sure you share it with us....your friends who really love your good heart. ~ hugs from this poor old middle aged chipmunk Lyra |

MIddle age? You mean you're gonna live until age 116? Now stop letting them see the sensitive side of you......they'll scream at me for beating up on you (but it's a good write) |

I love this, Toe... I wish I could erase the heartache and sadness from your life and make your every dream sweet... and I know without doubt that those people you've lost were remarkable... for I know the heart of their son, father, friend... and he's as fine as they come. *S* But please... keep writing pages, even chapters. *S* I know "the end" may be your only escape from me, but I'm hoping that page is far, far in your future. *S* This is excellent, dear one... a keeper for my library and my heart. *S* |

I want to thank you one and all for the very kind responses...I don't like to write serious stuff very often, if ya write a silly poem like I usually do and if it really sux, like mine usually do, the humor hopefully makes up for the poor poetry...but, again, thank you all... |
