(This weekend I was gone visiting my grandma and grandpa in Cape Giradeau, Missouri to celebrate their 50th anniversary, yay!!! While I anticipated much joy in that, I did not anticipate my dear cousins arrival, who I love so very much and have not seen in almost a whole decade. I cried in joy seeing them and my 20-year old cousin Michelle said she read my poetry secretly all the time and said she is so happy to see me as I was her and the whole family! She even said she may join Passions this week or soon! Yay! Here's a special song based on the experience I wrote!)

Long Time No See
By: Noah Eaton
10/8/02

I boarded a 747 for St. Louis
Early on a Saturday afternoon as the sun began to rise
Stopped at the Cracker Barrel for some catfish
Before making my way south down I-55
Drove south down to Cape Giradeau
Making reservations at the Drury Inn
Two shots of cappucinno and a pillow chocolate later
And I'm on my way to visit...
And I hear you say

Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see
And I say
Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see...
Long time no see...

You were over there in your favorite chair by the veranda
Reading your favorite novel by Margaret Atwood
Nicky is running around with his digital camera
Taking as many photographs as he could
I came across your precious smiles inadvertently
You took my heart by suprise
You could see those familiar tears falling from my eyes
And you hugged me and cried
And you said,

Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see
And I said
Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see...
My sweet cousin...

Grandma's in the kitchen whipping up some of her Ramen cole slaw
Grandpa's off to the Frontier Kitchen to pick up deli meat
Aunt Kim's smoking a cigarette on the front porch
Throwing it aside and hugs me when she first sees me

I stayed down in Cape Giradeau till late in the evening
Listening to what we all had to say and listening to cassettes of Brooks & Dunn
Played ten rounds of Shanghai on four cups of lemonade
Even after hours, the night still seemed so very young
You reminded me Goethe says "The right man is the one that seizes the moment!"
So where do I sign to retract this furlough?
Mark this day as my official inauguration
To a renewed love of family that will only continue to grow
And you said,

Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see
And I said
Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see...
My sweet cousin...

Waffle irons and coffee spoons clang the very next morning
After we watched Moulin Rouge on HBO in the middle of the night
Continental breakfast and a 10:00 break to the Citgo D-Mart next door
And back up the road we go to grandma and grandpa's house at noontide

I took your hand and walked down the quiet road with you
Saw the lilacs and the tiger lilies in the fields scattered about
We walked down to the front of Clarence's Ranch
Saw the llamas and the donkeys and the horses prancing around
You said "I want to be an English professor!"
I said I dream of becoming one too and we cheered each other on with youth
And we hugged that final hour before it was time to go home
Saying, "Here's my e-mail address, please e-mail me soon!"
And you said,

Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see
And I said
Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see...
My sweet cousin...
Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see
And I said
Sha-la-la-la-la
Long time no see...
My sweet cousin...
It's so great to see you...
Hope to see you again soon...

When Michelle gets here, she will be so surprised to see a poem dedicated to her.  Let me know if I miss her sign-in Noah...you know we will want to greet more family!

Like Al Green's Sha-la-la- Make Me Happy,
you obviously knew where your heart was destined to be that weekend.  Loved the itinary, Noah, espec. the Atwood reference,
as i could picture so plainly the house's setting, like a stage, and the actors playing themselves, enjoying natural performance.

Yay!
and wonder-smiles to a bud,
jeff

Sounds like fun. If only I didn't have a disfunctional family. LOL

Ohhhh, That was so special, sweet Noah. Like the others, I felt like I was there with all of you. Your "other family" sounds like they love you as much as your "family of friends" love you. How could anybody keep from loving sweet Noah?!? Your loving ways come across in every word you say, whether it be in your poetry, your song, or your comments to other people. I also want to know when your cousin "gets here" so I can give her a welcome too. By the way, I missed you over the week-end, as I know everyone else did!! If everything works out, I'll be going to see my Gary this week-end. I'll miss all of you sweet people, but I sure do want to see my darling, Gary!!
Thanks for sharing your weekend with us, Noah.

With Love To All,
Ethel....garysgirl
