I think of childhood when I glance to the photo of you beside my bed. Daffodils seemed to smile in waves back then, even dandelions could be rolled in May through the folds of my shirt. (Mother told me a picture is worth a thousand words.) Wolfgang slept beside me one Christmas morning when I was 10 or so. The fire was blazing. His fur coat warmed my sweater and cheek. I recall knowing he would be with me forever. Times were happy, then, he died one summer. We buried him in the backyard right next to the hemlock, and I cried over him, too. (Not even a thousand words could describe the wag of his tail.) And I weep to think that the spring in your eyes cannot be contained by any number-worded picture. Because I love Spring. |

Derek, there are not enough words to tell you what this made me think of, and how it made me feel... thank you! |
