She was an angel made in heaven And Tabitha was her name She was just seventeen months of age But it was death that brought her fame Her mother lay unconscious As she cried with all her might Fear would soon envelop her As the day turned into night The Department were too busy They'd been here many times before But they didn't search the house When no one answered the door She called out for her Daddy But he simply wasn't there The neighbours were void of hearing Was there anyone who cared? Her mother lay still and lifeless And her skin was blue and cold There was no one to comfort her There were no arms for her to hold A flame too soon extinguished Now many hang their heads in shame She died alone with her dead mother More than one must share the blame * * * * This was a true story that happened in Melbourne the other week. The Department of Human Services ignored all the warning signs and a young mother who was battling drugs and alcohol died alone with her daughter. No one questioned their whereabouts and nobody became suspicious as the pram lay outside and the child's toys were left untouched. How very tragic that a child is left to starve to death as society once again lets her and her mother down dismally. I am in motion |

Darn, this is just dreadfully sad. How pitiful our society has become when no one seems to care for their neighbors and those in charge, such as social services, are too busy, under staffed and under funded. What a miserable situation. I am so sorry for both the mom and the little princess. May they find mercy in God's loving arms. Thank you for writing and caring. Maybe we all need to go to our children and give each of them a big hug....and to not ever forget this poem....Yes, tragic.... And the tens of thousands of children in Africa and other third world countries that are dying daily are tragic as well...Count our blessings, for we have many to count and be thankful for. Thank you SueT.... |

Oh, Sue, this is so terrible, and to think that similar things take place every day. It hurts me to think that this poor mother may have cried out in her own way for help with her drug and alcohol problem...but no-one heard her cries. Then, the precious little angel had to suffer a slow agonizing death of starvation because nobody listened to her mother. So sad. Ethel |

Sue: What a tragic story. Just tears your heart to think of both the mother and the poor little girl, dying under such terrible circumstances. Betty Lou Hebert |

Sue - so sad when life is seen as unimportant - you write a poem that says so much and says it well - Paul |

Sue, the discovery of this tragedy must have been just as disturbing as to try to find the words to bring this pitiful situation to light, albeit you did a good job of it - still, it must have been just as hard to write, as it was to comprehend, as it was, for us, to read. Bless you, and may Tabitha find comfort in God's arms... |

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Sue, this is a tragedy, I can't believe the doctors didn't listen and attend to the needs of this mom and her child, that is horrible! (wipes tears) My heart goes out to many patients whose needs are not met up to and I pray after this tragedy that doctors have learned their lesson as my prayers go out to the rest of Tabitha's family! (big hugggssssss) I send angel hugs to Melbourne, sweet friend, God Bless You, you are a true angel, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |
