Let's play out the pattern,
             one more time,
and see the terror of our youth.
For we have snagged each others
             torture,
with the only love we ever knew.

Let's play out the pattern,
             one more time,
and we'll be the naughty children,
just begging to receive reprisals,
of the only love we ever knew.

Though it's blocked before,
             our minds somehow,
we're reflecting back the
          kind of care,
    that raped our innocent,
    infant souls,
with the only love we ever knew.

I wonder, will we ever conquer
that fear instilled so young?
And learn the mysteries
     of our worth,
In spite of the unknowns.

For, when our sense of right
         does surface,
I do not suppress my rage,
and you do show your anger,
using humiliation and disgrace.

While archaic influences
      control us still,
and push us one more time
toward constant self-destruction
with the only love we ever knew.

The pattern is stamped so clearly
across our lives, in pain.
  We don't need to play
     the game again,
it's like a history page.

With conscious thought and insight,
let's set aside these chapters,
   With tears, we'll close
that book forever.
And start a pattern of our own.

We'll finally acknowledge,
        natural traits,
we've admired in one another,
and, accept our own true worthiness
  and, the things we were
  afraid to trust.

With mutual honor and respect
we'll hold our heads up high
and teach the others lost in grief
the meaning of true love!

Pat, do you realize what a great poet you are? I love your writings. You pour out onto paper the feelings in your heart so well. I find myself looking for your poems. Thanks for sharing with us. Best Wishes with your "TRUE LOVE", too.
