It's Friday night at Wal-Mart!
I am set and dressed to go!
It is time to get a head start
To the greatest place I know.
Parking lot is full already
Though the night has just begun
Hey! It's Friday night at Wal-Mart!
This is gonna be such fun!

I can see the Wal-Mart shoppers
Seeking bargains left and right
Young and old and teeny-boppers
Buying everything in sight.
Grab a large bag or a small cart
Load it up till it gets full
'Cause it's Friday night at Wal-Mart
And I'm charging like a bull!!!

Take a walk to Sports department,
Grab a putter....practice putts.
People eye me in amazement
Thinking I am slightly nuts
Maybe so but I've a good heart
Never bothered anyone.
It's just Friday night at Wal-Mart
And i'm having lots of fun!!

Over to the Book department
Read my favorite magazine
Browse through Time, S.I. and Newsweek
Reader's Digest, Silver Screen.
You won't ever catch me fall short
Of the news that's happening
When it's Friday night at Wal-Mart..
It's an academic thing!!!

I may ogle pretty misses
Dressed in shorts and mini-skirts.
In my mind I send them kisses
Though I don't overtly flirt.
Love to watch the girls in tight shorts
Reach for items on the shelf.
Yep, it's Friday night at Wal-Mart
And I just can't help myself!!

Shoe department is my next stop,
Look for something comfortable..
Sneakers, loafers, boots and flip-flops
Try them till I've had my fill.
Never buy them - I just like to
Revel in the way they feel.
It is Friday night at Wal-Mart..
Such an economic deal!

You can saunter to the Snack Bar,
Grab a dog and cherry coke,
Have a meal that will go far
Without making you go broke.
Have a seat and watch the shoppers
Walking up and down the aisle.
I love Friday nights at Wal-Mart!
How they always make me smile!

There are other things to do here...
Try out toys in Juvenile,
Head on over to Electronics,
Watch some t.v. for a while.
Sniff the flowers in the Garden Shop..
Their perfume fills my nose.
There is so much more to Wal-Mart
Than a rack or two of clothes!

But it's late - my age is showing
And I musn't overdo.
Time to get my body going
Now that Friday night is through.
Week-end's now off to a great start
Since I had a real good time
Spending Friday night at Wal-Mart
And I didn't spend a dime!!!!

Well Mike they do slash prices. But you don't ever slash the quality of your poetry.
This is excellent.

I have windows XP and I can't get topic review to come up when I click on it.
If you're a windows XP'er then maybe you know what's happening???
Other than that keep wrtiting them up!

We got nothing like that here, the fancy
shops in town have three departments,
booze, clothes and food.
But you can't be the country shops, no bigger than an our average US bathroom stall with a crazed couple behind the counter who insist on preforming searches on shoppers to see you nicked any of those 10 cent lollipops while their backs are turned.
Ranting and attempting humour...not working here.
I'll leave it the humour to the great Balladeer. Good to read you again.

Remind me never to accept a date with a Walmart shopper. I've got better things to do...Dairy Queen, Pop Pop's Pizza, Dollar Store... But I could never say it like you do.

This is a wonderful Wal-mart poem, Balladeer! If anyone can write a perfect poem for Wal-mart, it is you. Thank you for the journey through Wal-mart. Where I live, that is the only big shopping store to go to.

I hadn't realized how much fun I had been missing out on! Guess you know where I'm spending my Friday nights from now on!

Wal-Mart would love this---except for the line, "and I didn't spend a dime!!!" haha

This was such an entertaining read---and with pictures and all! Thanks for the morning pick-me-up piece!

You’re my kind of party animal. I actually do this for entertainment. When I was younger, I'd also take new cars out for a drive. And, likewise, I wouldn't spend a dime.

Thanks,

What a treat to find you shopping
In the mall on Friday night,
Balladeer, there's no debating,
This was such a true delight!

What a smile, I got from reading,
All your antics at the mall,
Rhythmic, cadence overflowing,
Such a grin, you gave to all.

Sigh … your writing's always brilliant …
You have such panache and style;
I could follow every movement,
As you went from aisle to aisle.

Now I know where you've been playing,
So, my 'deer, let's make a date;
At the WallMart, I'll be waiting,
Friday night … at ten to eight!

~*~

LOL ... you've gotta know I just loved this Michael ... excellent writing!

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Friday night at Wal-Mart
I think I've missed you there
I was dancing through the aisles
But didn't see you anywhere

I was looking for some Spam
Because I liked the taste
It appeared you'd ate them all
Isn't that a waste

So you are a Wal-Mart rooky
tried out all but nothing bought
Balladeer you dirty rascal
You are smarter than I thought

I too was at our Wal-Mart
on this past Friday night.
I always get a bargain
and I don’t’ even have to fight!

I got some new “personals”
in a pretty shade of blue,
the quality is sure to last,
experience tells me this is true.

I give up my eBay Friday nights,
to walk each and every isle,
before I know it ~ my cart is full,
I’ve collected quite a pile.

I stop in for a carmel sundae
to see if there’s men around,
Yes Wal-Mart is the store for me,
best pickup place in town.

Your poetry makes me try,
to rhythm and to rhyme,
I loved this Wal-Mart poem, Michael
You make me laugh every single time.

Earth Angel...there are so many delights around we don't recognize. It all depends how we look at them....have fun!!

Melton...Wow! You're my idol. I never went that far, didn't feel like dealing with car salesmen....did have real estate agents show me a few houses, though

Marti....Glad you like it!! There's a smile down every aisle at your local Wal-Mart store

Kit...Friday night at ten to eight?
Kit, my dear, you have a date!
It's the only way that I'll
Get to walk you down the aisle!

MArtie...sure they do - it's called Maui-Mart!! Have a wonderful trip!

Barry...aha! A fellow traveler down the pathways of delight! Thanks for reading...

Greeneyes...well, if you're not there you better be on Target!! Hey, it's not such a bad fate...

Titia..When Wal-Mart gets a shipment
Of their weekly load of Spam
A small alarm sounds in my head
       And-WHAMMO!- there I am!
So meet me there on Friday
And I'll offer you a bite
       Then, afterwards, perhaps we'll have
       A little dutch delight!!

Mysteria...in my wildest dreams I cannot picture you inside a Wal-Mart! Oh, the chaos and the sound of screeching cart wheels flying up and down the rows! The second a price dropped, you would be there...and there!...and there!! I would pay greatly for a video of that!!!
    Thank you, m'lady!!

You surely weren't Mysteria
at Walmart Friday night,
Or you'd have spent a hundred bucks
At every aisle in sight!

How do you go into that store
And come out spending none?
I too go there and spend my dough
It's really so much fun.

One aisle I missed, I must go back;
I hope it's not too late.
It's Sunday night, they're not closed yet...
I need a Walmart date!!

Its Friday night at Walmart
and in the pet department
they're selling furry chipmunks
with underground apartments

rodents reading poetry
oh what a fascination
cheekpouches swaying to and fro
in grand hallucination

its Friday night at Walmart
lets all hoot and holler
they're selling nuts and acorns
for ten cents on the dollar

I love the life that you put into your poems, Michael...  they're like true folk songs
