Although my life’s been very hard
and though, the years ahead will be,
I wouldn’t change it if I could,
for doing so, would just change me.

Each obstacle has helped me grow
into the man I am today,
resulting in the peace I feel,
my spirit shaped, like hands on clay.

This is the only life I’ll have,
so best to find the strength to fight,
not sit in darkness, counting fears.
Self-pity only steals your sight.

If truth be known, I’m very blessed.
My attitude is that of hope.
Each day I bring someone a smile,
no longer in the darkness, grope.

It is our choice, if we’re to win,
to light our lives for all to see,
to push the darkness far away.
I lit my life, it set me free.

This is one of the best poems I've read in many a day. I am a big believer in how one's attitude can affect their whole life and here you have penned it exquisitely.

I like your honesty and willingness to share the "how-to's" in this poem.
Getting out of one's self and making someone else smile...says a lot about what you have learned. Sharing the insight of your lessons gives all of us hope and a belief, that we too, may reach that peace of mind you found.
