October’s Tune A world of tranquility slowly succumbs To the change of a season that rhythmically comes Every year when October so cleverly slips Into lingering warmth before temperature dips When green leaves of summer have bid their adieus Transforming the landscape to magical hues These carnival days of a brilliant disguise Leave some fantasy visions in unaware eyes Before the last leaf is swirled into a spin And brisk winds are whistling a threatening hymn A season is waiting to take off its mask To the cold days of winter it’s longing to grasp It’s time for the eye to be wary and wise To the impending cold and the gray of the skies But now is the time for October to smile At the wide watchful eyes that it plans to beguile A breeze sweeps the woods with a rustling sound As the leaves of confetti come sprinkling down From umbrellas of yellow and orange and red Afloat in a canopy high over head October fools no one with splendors it yields Of bright painted hills, golden bronze of the fields And yet I forget just how swiftly it goes Unprepared every year for the oncoming snows The neatly stacked woodpile looks down from the hill Awaiting the day I brave brisk Autumn chill While I’m still distracted by gifts she bestows October is laughing and grasping for snows Elizabeth Santos |

Elizabeth~ A lovely poem about this time of year. In October it's like mother nature shows us her beautiful colors once each year and then she prepares for hibernation, only to be re-born again with the coming of the spring...Paul |

A wonderful poem Elizabeth, you play with the words as an artist with paint, bringing us pictures of kind, your muse and you are a great pair, rhyming together and singing in a chorus of beauty, which we are privileged to be a part of. Sincerely Rick |

October speaks what September longs to say. Thank you. What light through yon window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. |
