Day is overcast,
threatening rain.
I hear a muffled thump, thump, thump
in the distance,
as someone hurriedly repairs a roof
before the skies release
their moisture.

My lawn is a mixture
of grass and assorted weeds,
short,
though trying to grow
in this still chilly month.

Thousands of tiny flowers
erupt each year at this time.
About the size of a
woman's smallest fingernail,
they are a deep lavender with sun-gold trim
around the edges of the petals.

Quite lovely for a weed.

A Brown Thrasher hops about,
exploring the lawn in search of food,
ever alert.
First one bird, then three.

I go and refill their feeders.

Beside the window, I place
my easel
and try to express on canvas,
not only this scene,
but how this day causes me feel.

As I touch the canvas and recognize
its familiar spring against my brush,
I wonder.

(smiles) Awwwwwww, this is soooooo beautiful, sweet friend, I wish I knew how to paint better so I can paint what I see in my backyard so vividly, I think I've seen these pretty lavender flowers too, just as lilacs and sea foam roses are always enchanting to see and wonder of! (big huggsssssss) This is breathtaking, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Michael

I always love the view out your window...makes me wonder too...about the colors on the canvas.  Loved this so possitive look at the delights of nature.

Ah, you are fortunate indeed, to be able to see, and express yourself, as both an artist  and a writer. Even if you don't get around to painting all that you spoke of in your poem, we did get to see it all through your written words.

~ Thank you for sharing a special moment ~

(I have storm clouds today too)

Wonderful Michael...
I have to admit the title grabbed my attention,
as my garden is full of Lavender.
This piece you have chocked full of amazing images.
I do hope you were able to capture some on canvas.
I love this...thanks for the keeper!

Noah, thank you very much.  As for painting, you'll only get better with each new canvas painted.

Martie, thank you!  I no longer have the painting.  I sold it last year.  This is actually a reworked part of a much larger poem.

Earth Angel, you're very sweet.  Thank you!  Sometimes I can only express on canvas what I can't do so in poetry.  Yes, I do very very fortunate.

Susan, actually, my cat was going nuts and running from one window to the next at the time. LOL!  I hope you got rained.  It poured all day and night here.  Today we have sunny skies.  *hugs* and thank you!

Nancy, thanks for keeping this, my friend.  You're a dear.  *hugs*
