"Café Blues" (09/27/02) © 2002 Brian Eggertsen, All Rights Reserved Verse 1 There's a little café down by the railroad Decorated with the ghost of yesterday, In haze of smoke in the middle of nowhere Poor shadows of sorrow crowd to get away. Verse 2 It's the place where shells of man comes and goes For peace, to get away from their broken hearts, To barry their pain in a cup of coffee To find out where they belong and who they are. Chorus Café blues.... A place to barkin with the devil Over a game of Gin and Rommy, A place to slay all of your demons All without shame or shattering thee. Café blues.... Verse 3 Upon the front door there is a sign that says: "The closest you'll get to real satisfaction", Inside there is not a seat left in the house But all the while people are still "cashing in". Chorus Café blues.... A place to barkin with the devil Over a game of Gin and Rommy, A place to slay all of your demons All without shame or shattering thee. Café blues.... Bridge Café Blues... I come there myself sometimes, When I've dug a whole too deep. And when I have got me back Well then I just up and leave. Café blues.... Chorus Café blues.... A place to barkin with the devil Over a game of Gin and Rommy A place to slay all of your demons All without shame or shattering thee Café blues.... |

I am reminded me of "house of the rising sun," for some reason as read these words. I can imagine this being sung over blues/tom waits music. Enjoyable read. Too early for the rainbow, too early for the dove These are the final days, this is the darkness, this is the flood |
