That Which Remains
By: Noah Eaton
9/21/02

Silently standing in the ruins like the Parthenon
Eroded away like a lost Mayan empire
Standing like Octavian without five fingers grasping the scepter
Five kings instincts buried deep in their pockets retired

Crouching like a beggar in a Roman palace
Even Dionysus seems more sober than me
Feel like Charlemagne without a son Pepin to run my garrisons
Not able to hear my own Song of Roland through the streets

Confidentally I thought all our revels now have ended
But I can't get to sleep with this pageant still going on
Feel like a distant half-brother of Timothy Winters
But when I shout "Amen!" there's no throng

And all that which remains
Are epitaphs engraved on the smoke
There's no explanation to how time elapses
But I feel untouched by this gray hoax

Without any heart or remaining breath
I seem to find the reasons come out in a chiffonier
And the moment I hold onto it
Is that same moment I watch it disappear

And I go on, wanting to make good judgment obsolete
Peeling to the truth like the meat of a coconut
And everyone feels so strange around me
They all seem jurisprudent and I feel misinterpreted

And all that which remains
Are the broken bows of principles I sufficed
And the fact that I feel empty
Without your harvest moon ironing these tears I cry...
That always seem to return...
Can you spare some salt?

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Incredible imagery laid out throughout this entire piece Noah. Truly an excellent write. You've capture your feelings here in so many ways ... I've got pictures dancing all through my mind. Very well done (and I loved that coconut line above ... )

Best wishes,
/Kit

well, I'm having trouble interpreting, because I forgot to bring my brain with me...I can't keep from heading to the rest of the house in my thoughts as I'm having dinner guests and I must remove the sty from the living room, kitchen and dinging area.

I'll try to come back when I have one...a brain, that is.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

That was great.

Noah I love seeing your words grow and take on such beauty.  Well done dear friend.

If I have touched one heart through my words, then I have acheived my dream...

My friend Noah,
This piece speaks to me, not of fantasy, but of the depths of pain...
As love can lift us high beyond all imagination...so can it crash into a hard reality.  Take heart dear friend, we cannot lose what we did not find. ThisDiamond
