Impressions of a California Farm Town

They work when the harvest calls,
bend and stand, bend and stand,
in September heat,
in dervish dust,
from sunup
‘til
the moon is high.

Today it’s Ambrosia melons,
nostalgic scent of Freesia
a sweet contrast to
bitter biocides.

The rhythmic tossing
from hands
to mouths of trucks -
a sad ballet
I witness from
the highway.

Come winter,
I imagine only a few will stay,
the rest must follow the sun;
pull the kids from school,
for when there is work,
it takes everyone.

I see migrant workers all the time,
They have a hard life, but mostly the have a good life,
not because the things they own, but the spirit they possess
In that, the ones I have met, are very rich

(sigh) Oh Corinne, I too admire those farmers so very much, for they work so hard and also they have a wonderful friendly spirituality too that I wish I had! (big hugggssssss) You depict such pastoral life so well, sweet friend, I love this, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

interesting, and well-described. i used to see these people all the time when i commuted to work. i found it to be an interesting study on what people were willing to do to support their families. sadly (in my op) the statistics show that the largest portion of migrant workers here in the states (especially here in the west) are actually illegal aliens from mexico - which means that not only do the relatively low wages amount to more for them (sending money back "home") than it does to settled families who live here in the states, it also has the affect of driving wages lower for those of us who live here, since the differential between dollar values between here and mexico allows [them] to work for much less. it's one of those nsaty cycles that contributes to our weakened economy.

uhm - sorry, went off on a tangent there. again, well described lady.

I don't remember this being a political poem.  But, it is a well-written one.

Thank you.
