From a 4 am spark of inspiration, an ode to my dog, who is as 'special' as they come. I Hope it makes you smile.

Flash is a good dog.
A hound dog, I guess.
Call him what you will, he doesn't care.
A basset maybe? Could be, Might be.

Fat and lazy
Long and sleek
More like a long-eared otter than a dog.
A walrus, maybe, though not as obediant.

Call him Flash
He comes
Call him Spike
He comes
Call him Hey Dog
He comes
Poor Flash
He doesn't know he has a name.

Long tongue
Long ears
Long body
Long face
Short legs
Odd.

Odd dog, Flash.
Eats like a vacuum cleaner set to 'Obliterate.'
Digs like a jackhammer set to 'Earth's Core.'
That is,
Until he forgets why he started digging.
Poor boy.

Good boy, Flash.
Runs like lightning when you throw the ball.
Stops at the ball.
Looks at it.
Looks at it.
Looks at it.
Wanders off.
Poor, brain-damaged Flash.

Good boy, Flash.
Barks at burglars
Good boy.
Barks at intruders
Good boy.
Barks at me.
No Flash, it's me.
Barks at me.
Barks at me.
Sigh.

My boy, Flash.
Big brown stupid Flash.
Long tongue and short legs.
Sad eyes and happy smile.
Looks smart but sorry, he isn't.
Can't talk, can't drive, can't solve crimes.
Who cares?
My best boy, yes him is, YES HIM ISSS

I love your dog! I love your verse! This is great! I know this dog, my brother used to own him. I remember him fetching the stick, or not exactly. I remember him looking at the stick. Ha!

I gotta admit, the title startled me into reading--and then...very cute (me dog person) woof. And I had no idea walrus's (walra? uh, what's the plural of that, anyway) were obedient. Sounds like you've got yourself a pal there. Enjoyed.

My Flash is name Sierra..and she looks smart.... but sure doesn't want to show it.
