The stillness was death defying On the edge of reality A borderline in a whisper of air Pass the boundary there was no repair The suspense here is almost too much to bear In the mist of it their was such a flare That held a special prayer Suspended animation in such despair That the mind could not declare In what state of disrepair Because their was such a big tear In my sensitive hearts electric chair While people were not aware Of my fatal game of solitaire In their glee to be self made millionaires Declaring how life was so unfair To all of their affairs In the simple saying of the Lord’s Prayer He gave me the invisible hug of a grizzly bear Taking me away from death’s chair Teetering on the edge I swear As I scampered back from such a scare That awoke with a book of common prayer Now I am careful to sit in upon a chair In tender loving care A lounge chair A beach chair But never ever a solitaire chair Especially on the very edge of thin air D.Lester Young 9/16/2002 Tuscaloosa, AL Copyright © D.Lester Young (White Eagle poetry) |
