Eyechaser

Every eye tries to chase
What won’t be erased
But one can’t grip
What one won’t face
What puts one in your place
And if one can’t grip
What one can’t trace
That which is erased
What will one have to face?

In trying to forget something, you first have to face it, headon.
I'll think peaceful thoughts for you.

My interpretation was of people who feed on pain and misery and prolong it by not facing it because they're afraid of having nothing left to face (as you said in the last line). Probably not at all what you had in mind, but that's just what I came up with. It's always interesting to see how many different ways poems can be taken.
