Moved from a shack to a barn

Ten small paintings by Victor Hartmann inspired Mussorgski to write corresponding piano pieces.
Later, Ravel fully orchestrated Mussorgskis' work.

Here, I undo all that was done, before

viii.     Catacombae

An appalling pall
Of dark and dank
Greets thief and friar

Cloaks all that enter
The amazing maze

This store of bones
Of fleshless frames

These sticks and stones
Of nameless priests

A grotesque cache
In crowded crèche

An oily flame
Does lume these rooms
Of unlearned fate
And originates
From Paters’ pate

iv.     Baba Yagas’ hut

Her home a place
Of simple plan
Of odd construct
Not made by man

In forest clear
It stands alone
Walled with wood
And stone
And bone

Its’ roof is pitched
With feathered thatch

The door is just
A darkened patch

The hut is old
The site is new
This shack has tricks
That few can do

When Baba needs
To change locale
Her hut will move
On feet of fowl

x.     The great gate of Kiev

And finally
Depicted in tobacco stain
And smudge of gray
A gate of arch
In late of day

A peerless portal
At its’ start
To beacon all
From far away

But like the painting
And the Gate
This writing, seems
incomplete

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".

And now...your ten small paintings looming in my head, I shall go and pour a cup of coffee, and contemplate...

well done, my friend, well done, indeed...

yes, very nice
wish I had the discipline
to accomplish this
and there is a challenge?
Now I go back to read each separately

The entire collection is riveting! The Catacombae is very disturbing, yet you've done it so vividly my heart aches for its inhabitants and I'm positive that, here, I have fully seen the painting.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

I am so impressed by this series of poems that you have written on art. There is more to you than meets the eye! Kudos!

Wranx,
And these words left you feeling cold,
spent,
and worthless of muse?
Not so, friend.
It'll take my whole life
to come close to writing to this...

(smiles) Wow!!! Oh Wranx, and maybe it is destined for you to write what is incomplete from the Kiev Gate! (sigh) This is excellent, sweet friend, you are a true artist of voice, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Wranx, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

You have accomplished what I thought to try...but never found the discipline to make myself do it.... but do it you have..and done it so very well...

If Mike's comment is an indication you were not satisfied with these efforts... then I would echo his comments word for word...

Enjoyed your insight into this...

Just read all three posts in this series again. Your word choice is perfect. The structure breathes. A life well spent, in letters. New adventures, perhaps?

Amazing work!

Again, I thank you for the reading of these.
I felt somewhat out of my element here.
(these just didn't come...naturally, to me.)

So, you comments are doubly appreciated.
