A whisper of hope Fled into the dark silence On a flight of redemption In only its faith Did its path become clear The last breathe had taken its toll Suffocating pride in dwindling resources Gasping for any sign The mind refused to give up In a prayer so inspired the earth quaked In the pain of deep abrasions Nothing could stand this abuse But somehow they almost all do You came into my volatile world With a gentle outstretched hand An angel from another world In your opinions of such good will In every way the vinegar Should have fermented so bitter But somehow your touch created the wine In a vintage that seen so much hope In a world turned around By someone else’s vision An ugly face, cleaned itself respectable In soothing caresses the pain healed In a whisper you were gone It seems that I could only see you For the faith you healed me with Was my own, believing in one’s self So as I whisper into the darkness now Saying the positive things about existing There is now an echo returning In an angel’s face smiling D.Lester Young 9/11/2002 Tuscaloosa, AL Copyright © D.Lester Young (White Eagle poetry) |
